The Port Alberni Bombers are excited to announce Troy Newans as the third Head Coach in franchise history.
Returning to join Newans as Assistant Coach and Assistant GM is Mike Doucette, while Brad Knight will remain with the organization as General Manager.
Newans most recently served as Head Coach of the Campbell River Storm, who he led to a 31-12 and 5 record, and an 11 and 5 postseason record en route to a North Division Championship. The Storm came within a goal of the Brent Patterson Memorial Trophy as they dropped Game 7 of the league final in overtime to the Peninsula Panthers.
On joining the Bombers, Newans commented: “I’m extremely excited to be joining such a reputable organization. I’m looking forward to working with a great group of people who thrive on the development of young athletes and put such a huge premium on growing the brand and getting better year after year”
Bulldogs Head Coach and GM Joe Martin commented: “I’m excited to hire Troy in this position. He’s passionate about player development and winning. Those goals match those of the organization, and will help build on the great success Brad, Mike and all the Bomber staff and roster accomplished last season”
On Knight as General Manager, Martin added: “Brad returning to the Bombers as the General Manager is a huge bonus for our us. I’m thankful to have such a good mentor for our Bombers staff and players”
On Doucette’s return, Martin stated: “Mike returning is crucial to our growth, he’s a great leader for our players. The passion he has for helping young men achieve their goals doesn’t go unnoticed. To be successful you need positive people around you, and we all feel that is one of Mike’s strengths”
Newans and Doucette signed two year contracts.
