The Port Alberni Bombers extended their Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season-opening winning streak to five games with a convincing 9-1 decision over Lake Cowichan Kraken on Wednesday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. The Bombers scored three goals in each period in cruising to the victory.
Elliot Kuprash was the Bombers’ top marksmen, scoring three times, while McCall Nault, Solstice Tennant, Kash Nicklin, Grayson Salmon, Jaxon Hinchey and Nathan Hayes also scored.
Zach Spafford and Leim Smith had three assists on the evening, with Luke Ridgway and Daniel Betcher being credited with two helpers.
Evan Grant improved his record to 3-0 after stopping 27 of 28 Kraken shots. The Bombers outshot Lake Cowichan 47-28 on the evening.
Next action for the Bombers is Friday night when they travel to the Capital Region for a matchup with Victoria Cougars at Archie Browning Arena. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
