The Port Alberni Bombers extended their home-ice winning streak to three games with a 3-2 victory over Oceanside Generals in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) play on Sunday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
The Bombers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period, then extended that lead to 3-0 after only two minutes of the second frame, but the Generals got close with two goals of their own, making the score 3-2 after forty minutes.
The third period was scoreless, with both teams having chances, but the goaltenders – Ethan Suhr of Oceanside and Joseph Naccarato of Port Alberni – made a number of key saves.
Joel Dorn had two goals for the Bombers, bringing his season total to five, while McCall Nault scored his first of the season. Ethan Unger had two assists, with Quinn Bouchard and Jaxon Hinchey adding one helper each.
Braylon Becker and Seth Corlazzoli scored for the Generals.
The Bombers were 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Generals were 1-for-1. The Bombers outshot their opponents 34-29 on the evening.
The Bombers will play two games on the road next week, first travelling to Colwood for a Wednesday night contest against Westshore Wolves and then to Mill Bay to meet the Kerry Park Islanders on Friday evening.
The locals return home on Friday, October 10 when they meet Peninsula Panthers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. Opening face-off is set for 7:00 pm.
