Bombers Defeat Predators in Close Encounter

The Port Alberni Bombers picked up their fourth win in five games, defeating Saanich Predators 4-3 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play on Friday night in Saanich.
The Bombers scored twice in the first period and twice more in the second frame to lead 4-1 with just over six minutes left in the middle stanza. From there the Bombers held off their hosts, who scored late in the second period and once more in the final frame to make things close.
Former Bomber Kaydin Halladay, Matthew Anderson and Deegan Panas scored for the Predators. Malik Oliva, on the power play, Logan Meyer, Kash Nicklin and Cole Campbell scored for the Bombers.
Mason Smith, Quinn Bouchard, Jaxon Hinchey, John Shields and Nicklin picked up assists for Port Alberni, who outshot their opponents 45-35 on the evening.
The Bombers were 1-for-3 on the power play while holding the Predators scoreless on three opportunities with the man advantage.
Ryan Burroughs picked up the win between the pipes for the Bombers, making a number of key saves late in the contest to preserve the win.
The Bombers return to the Alberni Valley Multiplex on Saturday night when they host Lake Cowichan Kraken in a 7:00 pm start.
