The Port Alberni Bombers began the post-break portion of the 2025-26 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League schedule with a 2-1 loss to Comox Valley Glacier Kings on Saturday night in Courtenay.
Ethan Unger scored the lone Bomber goal, his fourth of the season, giving Port Alberni a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes, a lead they carried to the mid-point of the final period.
At that point, after a fight that sent Bomber, Troy Zajac and Glacier King, Westin Churchill off for five minutes each, the Bombers found the selves down a man for five minutes when Zajac was assessed a five-minute boarding penalty, an infraction that had precipitated the fight. On the ensuing power play, Comox Valley tallied twice within one minute and thirty seconds on goals by Sheldon Alexander and Kyle Mayenburg, to take the lead and end the scoring.
The Glacier Kings outshot the Bombers 40-33 on the evening. All three goals in the game were scored on the power play. The Bombers going 1-for-3 with the man advantage, the Glacier Kings 2-for-6.
Joe Naccarato picked up third-star honours, stopping 38 of 40 shots. Logan Meyer picked up the lone assist on Unger’s goal.
The Bombers return to action on Sunday night when they host Saanich Predators at the Alberni Valley Multiplex in a game that is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm
