The Port Alberni Bombers put an end to their four-game losing streak on Tuesday night. As they defeated the Comox Valley Glacier Kings by a final score of 2-1.
With the Bombers having been taken advantage of by the Generals in their past two games, the Bombers knew that they had to tighten up their game defensively. And needless to say, it was executed very well in this contest.
In the first period, neither team would be able to get on the board. It was scoreless as the teams head back to the locker rooms for the first intermission.
In the second period, the Bombers would be the ones to open the scoring. As Nathan MacDonald (13) would pot home the opening goal off a powerplay tally to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead.
And it would remain that way going into the third period.
In the final frame, the Bombers would strike again to double their lead. This time from Gavin Mastrodonato (2) with just under nine minutes to play.
However, the Glacier Kings would respond just 11 seconds later to cut the Bombers lead in half off a very flukey goal that would make it a 2-1 game.
But that would be all the scoring in this game. As Bombers goalie Callum Tung would remain a rock until the final buzzer and secure a 2-1 victory. Stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced.
The final shot totals were 37-33 for the Bombers in this one. The Bombers would also go 1-4 on the powerplay, whereas the Glacier Kings would go 0-5 with the man advantage.
Next up for the Bombers are the expansion brothers of the Bombers, the Lake Cowichan Kraken. That game will take place on November 26th, at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
