Bombers End Pre-Season with Frustrating Loss to Generals

After losing their first exhibition game in franchise history, the Port Alberni Bombers wanted to end on a high note going into the 2021-22 regular season. However, the Oceanside Generals also had the same plan and were able to execute it to greater success as the Generals would end up defeating the Bombers 8-2 on Friday night in Parksville.

At the start of the first period, the Generals would be the ones to open the scoring as Carter Johnson would score 46 seconds into the opening frame.

A little over a minute later, the Generals would score once again, this time from Jacob Thomas to make it a 2-0 game less than two minutes in.

Not long after, the lead would continue to increase for the Generals, as Johnson would score his second goal of the game to give the Generals a 3-0 lead only six minutes into the first period.

The Bombers would get on the board at 9:02 of the 1st as Bombers forward Brett MacLean would score to soften the early blow from the Generals.

A little over three minutes later, the Generals would make it a three-goal lead again after Miles Carson scored at 12:35 of the first period to give his team a 4-1 lead.

As the period was in the final three minutes, the Generals would score one more time as Greyson Weme made it a 5-1 lead for the Generals heading into the intermission. Needless to say, the Bombers were certainly not expecting this type of start to this game.

In the second period, the offence was cut down drastically as there would only be one goal registered and it came from the Generals. Johnson would score again and make it 6-1, which also gave him the hat-trick to top it off.

The third period would see the goals keep on coming, as the Generals would score first in the period again, as Jacob Thomas would score his second goal of the game to make it 7-1 just over three minutes into the period.

The Bombers would respond quickly though, as Gavin Mastrodonato scored just 47 seconds after Thomas scored to make it a five-goal difference again at 7-2.

But that still wasn’t it for the scoring, as Miles Carson pot in another Generals goal at 12:21 of the third to give the Generals an 8-2 lead. Which is what the final score would end up being.

With that game, the pre-season is now over for the Bombers. As they now get set to face-off against the Campbell River Storm on September 10th at 7:30 PM in Campbell River.

The Bombers home opener will take place on September 15th against the Kerry Park Islanders at 7:00 PM.
