The Port Alberni Bombers dropped Game 1 of their Best of 7 series with the Oceanside Generals on Wednesday night 8-2 in Parksville.
The 2nd period proved to be the Bombers undoing on Wednesday. Tied 1-1 after 20 minutes play, the Generals pounded the Bombers for 6 unanswered goals and outshot Port Alberni 27-3 in the period. The Generals showed what made them the VIJHL’s top team during the regular season.
After going up 8-1, the Bombers got one back off the stick of Grayson Erickson to make the final score 8-2. The other Bombers goal came from team MVP Chase Pacheco as he finished off a pretty 2-on-1 with Blake Power in the 1st.
Shots on goal in the 3rd favoured Oceanside 15-10, and the game finished 58-18. Needless to say, Bombers goaltender Felix Plendl was busy on the night.
Oceanside was 2 for 6 with the man advantage while the Bombers were 0 for 4.
Game 2 goes in Port Alberni tomorrow night at 7:00 pm. The box office will open at 4:00 pm.
