Bombers Fall to Islanders in Home Opener

The Port Alberni Bombers hosted their first-ever regular-season game on Wednesday night but ultimately fell short against the Kerry Park Islanders by a score of 4-0.

Of those four goals, three of them came less than 10 minutes into the game. As the Islanders saw goals from Marko Tokic, at 2:37 into the first period. Shots were 16-3 in favour of the Islanders and both teams didn’t connect on the powerplay.

In the second, it only took 43 seconds for the Islanders to score as Ben Northcott would make the Bombers pull goalie Ryan Zadery out of the game and Keelan Hondro would replace him. And if it weren’t for Hondro. this could’ve easily been a higher-scoring game. As Hondro made remarkable saves throughout the rest of the contest. Stopping 17 of the 19 shots the Islanders made throughout the period. The shots were 19-6 by the end of the second period for the Islanders.

However, the Bombers offence wasn’t able to respond and were shut out by Islanders goaltender Dryden Demelo. Even though the Bombers outshot the Islanders 14-10 in the final frame. The final shot totals were 45-23 for the Islanders and neither team would convert on the powerplay.
