Bombers Fall to Top-Ranked Wolves

The Port Alberni Bombers travelled to Colwood on Wednesday evening and dropped a 6-2 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) decision to league-leading Westshore Wolves.
The Bombers fell behind 3-0 after one period of play as the Wolves scored three times in just over four minutes late in the first frame, and then surrender one more goal in the second period to trail 4-0 after forty minutes of play.
The third period saw the Bombers make a comeback of sorts. Malik Oliva scored twice, the first after thirty-seven seconds and the second exactly ten minutes later to get within two goals, but the Wolves responded, scoring less than a minute after the 4-2 marker, and then again two minutes later to regain their four-goal cushion.
Alejandro Snead led the Wolves, scoring twice, while Linden Hoskins added two assists and Kansys Seney had a goal and an assist for the winners.
The Wolves outshot the Bombers 41-25 on the evening as Bombers net minder Joseph Naccarato made a number of quality saves.
The Bombers were 1-for-3 on the power play while holding the Wolves off the scoresheet on their two power play opportunities.
The Bombers next see action on Saturday night when they travel to Mill Bay for an encounter with Kerry Park Islanders. Port Alberni defeated the Islanders 5-2 at the Multiplex in mid-September.
Their next home game is Friday, October 10 when they play host to reigning VIJHL champion Peninsula Panthers. Opening face off at the Alberni Valley Multiplex is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
