The Port Alberni Bombers evened their Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League record at one win and one loss after a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Oceanside Generals on Saturday night in Parksville.
Trailing 1-0 after twenty minutes, the Bombers tied the contest when Kaydin Halladay scored his first of two goals on the evening early in the second frame, only to have Max Boyle score on a penalty shot giving the Generals a 2-1 lead just over a minute-and-a-half later.
But from that point it was all Bombers – Halladay scored his second of the evening on the power play to tie the contest once again, and then Kash Nicklin put the Bombers ahead for the first time with what proved to be the game-winning goal with just over one minute remaining in the middle frame.
The third period saw the Generals apply constant pressure, outshooting Port Alberni 16-6, but the Bombers Joel Dorn scored the only goal of the stanza, into an empty net with thirty-six seconds remaining in the contest.
Halladay added an assist for a three-point night while Dorn also added a helper. McCall Nault and Simon Holubar also recorded assists while Ethan Unger added two assists.
Joseph Naccarato picked up the win in the Bombers goal, stopping 43 of 45 shots. Final shot totals were 45-24 in favour of Oceanside. The Bombers were 1-for-4 on the power play while the Generals were 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
The Bombers next game is Friday night when they travel to Campbell River to face the Storm. The next night the locals will play their home opener when they face Nanaimo Buccaneers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. Opening face-off on Saturday night is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
