The Port Alberni Bombers struggles continued on Friday night in Campbell River, as the locals dropped a 7-1 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League decision to the Storm.
The hosts built a 5-0 lead after two periods, and led 6-0 midway through the second stanza, before McCall Nault scored a power play marker to break the shutout, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Storm added another tally to win going away.
Seven different players scored for the Storm – Elliott Turgeon, Thomas Curri, Holden Smith, Ryder Tanner, Hudson Davidson, Ethan Hill and Reece Phillips, with Turgeon, Davidson, Noah Spencer and Maxime Simard adding two assists each.
The Bombers are now four points behind the Storm in the battle for the last playoff spot in the VIJHL’s North Division, but do have one game in hand.
They will try to close that gap on Sunday evening when they host Nanaimo Buccaneers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. Opening face-off is set for 6:00 pm.
