Bombers Harpoon Kraken

After spotting Lake Cowichan Kraken an early 2-0 lead, Port Alberni Bombers scored seven unanswered goals en route to a 7-2 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) victory on Saturday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
The victory was the Bombers eighth win against three overtime losses in their last 11 games, good for 19 of a possible 22 points over that span.
After falling behind 2-0 just over five minutes into the contest, the Bombers got a goal from Zach Spafford to escape the first period down 2-1, but three goals in each of the second and third frames allowed Port Alberni to win going away.
The second period was the Sean Richards show, as the Vancouver, BC native scored a natural hat trick, pushing his season goal total to 18, giving the Bombers a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes.
The third period was more of the same as Sam Davidson, Spafford with his second of the night, and Jaxon Hinchey rounded out the scoring in the comprehensive victory.
Leim Smith had two assists on the night, while Casey Rutland, Daniel Betcher, Elliot Kuprash, Kash Nicklin and McCall Nault added single helpers.
Tom Forrest improved his record to 7-3-1 in the Bombers net, stopping 23 of 25 shots on the evening.
The Bombers were 1-for-5 on the power play and limited the Kraken to only two man-advantages, allowing no goals.
Next VIJHL action for the Bombers is Wednesday night when they host Nanaimo Buccaneers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex
