Bombers host Cougars Tuesday Night

The Port Alberni Bombers (0-3-1) are hosting the currently undefeated Victoria Cougars (6-0-0) on a rare Tuesday night matchup.

After coming up short against the Oceanside Generals on Saturday night, the Bombers will look to build off that game as there were a couple of positives to take away from it.

The first being that the Bombers were able to generate some much-needed offence. Up to that point, the Bombers only recorded two goals throughout their first three games. So with there being three goals scored on Saturday night, this could be the start of the Bombers getting their offence together.

The other point is scoring on the powerplay. The Bombers were able to score twice on the same 5-minute major penalty. Before Saturday, the Bombers had yet to score with the man advantage. So this was a big monkey off the coaching staff’s back. Still lots of work to improve, but this is a good sign moving forward.

However, the Cougars are a very good team. As mentioned, the only team left to lose in regulation and have had their way with their opponents. Through their first six games, the Cougars have scored 31 goals and have only allowed 8 in that same span.

The Cougars also have the second-best powerplay in the VIJHL, currently converting at 28.6% as well as having a league-best penalty kill recording a 96.7% on the PK.

This will be a real test for the Bombers and it will be a very tough match against a strong Cougars team. But if the Bombers can keep up the momentum from Saturday, there’s a chance to make things interesting against the Cougars.

The game tonight will be at the Alberni Valley Multiplex and will begin at 7:00 PM. Tickets will be $10 for each adult and $5 for anyone under 18. But, if you’re 18 and accompanied by an adult, you’ll be able to watch the game for free. Thanks to the San Group.
