The Port Alberni Bombers lost their sixth consecutive Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League game, this time to Westshore Wolves 4-2, on Friday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
On a positive note – it was the third game in succession in which the Bombers could have won, with Friday’s game closer than the score would indicate.
Both teams had good nights on the power play. The Wolves lead 1-0 after the first period thanks to Sam Spring scoring while his team had a man advantage.
The second frame was more of the same – Parker Atkinson giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead, again on the power play, only to have the Bombers rebound with two goals, the first from Malik Oliva, the second from Troy Zajac, both on the power play to tie the score at 2-2 after forty minutes.
In the third frame the Wolves took the lead again, at 3-2, when Kansys Seney tallied with, you guessed it, his team on the power play, and Trace Anderson then scored the only even strength goal to round out the scoring.
The Bombers finished the evening 2-for-4 with the extra attacker while the Wolves were a perfect 3-for-3 on the night. Westshore outshot the locals 38-30 in the contest.
The Bombers next game is Monday afternoon at the Alberni Valley Multiplex when they host Oceanside Generals. Opening face-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm. The early start coinciding with the Family Day statutory holiday.
