Bombers Lose at Home to Storm

The Port Alberni Bombers are down two games to none in their Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League semi-final series after a 3-1 loss to Campbell River Storm on Thursday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
In a near carbon copy of Tuesday night’s opener in Campbell River, the two teams were scoreless after one period, and like game one, the Storm scored the only goal of the second frame when Jan-Felix Faupel put Campbell River ahead 1-0 after forty minutes.
The third period saw the Storm take a 2-0 lead (the same as Tuesday) when Marshall Curri scored with an assist from Faupel. The Bombers, like Tuesday, then clawed their way back into the contest when Grayson Salmon scored on a great short-handed individual effort, making the score 2-1, but that was as close as the Bombers would get as Kai Adano scored an empty-net goal for the Storm to close out the scoring with seven seconds remaining.
The Bombers won the special teams battle as neither team scored on the power play for the second straight game, only the aforementioned shorthanded marker by Salmon was scored during a manpower inequality situation. The Bombers were 0-for-6 on the power play while the Storm were 0-for-4.
The Campbell River outshot the Bombers 39-34, as Evan Grant and Kaeden Serpa, for the Bombers and Storm respectively, both continued their fine play between the pipes.
The teams will have a quick turnaround, as game three is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Friday night in Campbell River. Game four is set for 6:00 pm on Sunday evening in Port Alberni.
