The Port Alberni Bombers suffered their fifth loss in a row, dropping a 2-0 decision to Comox Valley Glacier Kings on Friday night at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
The teams were tied 0-0 after two periods of play and it looked as though the game might go to overtime, but a Glacier King power play goal by Quintas Mah with 4:33 remaining in the contest, followed by an empty-net marker from Jaxen Davison with 15 seconds remaining put the game out of reach.
The Bombers had the better of the play in the last half of the game, but couldn’t solve Comox Valley net minder Aaron Pichette who picked up his second shutout of the season, stopping 30 shots. Friday’s contest was the first time the Bombers have been shut out during the 2024-25 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League campaign. Evan Grant was the hard luck loser in the Port Alberni goal, stopping 23 of 24 shots.
The Bombers return to the friendly confines of the Alberni Valley Multiplex on Saturday night when they face Oceanside Generals in the final game before the Christmas break. The Bombers will be looking to stop their recent slide against a Generals team who beat them 3-2 last Saturday on a penalty shot goal by Levi Green with 1:12 remaining in the game. Puck drop on Saturday is 7:00 pm.
