Bombers Lose in Overtime

The Port Alberni Bombers suffered their third consecutive Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) loss, this time a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings on Friday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
The Bombers never had the lead in the contest, falling behind 1-0 in the first period when Rolan Amin scored his fifth goal of the season to give the Glacier Kings the lead going into the first intermission.
Port Alberni scored the only goal of the second frame, when Kash Nicklin scored his seventh of the campaign, this one on the power play, and the teams went to the dressing room tied at 1-1.
The third period saw both teams score once, Jaxen Davison scored first for the Glacier Kings to break the tie, and Leim Smith, with his fourteenth of the season on the power play, to get the Bombers back on even terms.
The overtime winner came on the power play as well – Sheldon Alexander scoring at 4:58 of the extra frame, sending the Glacier Kings home happy.
Comox Valley’s Rolan Amin was named the game’s first star as he figured in all three of the Glacier King goals, scoring his team’s first of the game and assisting on the other two tallies.
Evan Grant, the Bombers’ net minder, picked up second star honours, stopping 39 of the 42 shots sent his way.
The Bombers return to the ice less than 24 hours after Friday’s contest when they travel to Parksville to face the Oceanside Generals. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm.
