The Port Alberni Bombers dropped a close 4-3 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) decision to Comox Valley Glacier Kings on Wednesday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
The Bombers held leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, but two late second period tallies by the Glacier Kings was enough to gain the victory in front of 335 fans.
In a wide open, entertaining affair the Bombers got goals from newcomer Eduard Mishikov, Jeremy Gould (on the power play) and Quinn Bouchard to take three different one-goal leads but two late second-period goals by Cohen Kallin proved to be the difference. Suhaan Nagra and Westin Churchill scored the other Comox Valley goals.
Kash Nicklin added two assists for the Bombers, while Gould added a helper to go along with his goal.
The Glacier Kings outshot the Bombers 49-34 on the evening, with both goaltenders, the Glacier Kings, Ander Reyes and the Bombers, Ryan Burroughs making a number of quality saves.
The visitors were 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Bombers were 1-for-4 with the extra attacker.
The Bombers play at the Alberni Valley Multiplex twice over the weekend, meeting Westshore Wolves on Friday night in a 7:00 pm start and then facing off against Oceanside Generals on Monday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
