The Port Alberni Bombers are thrilled to announce Brad Knight as the clubs next Head Coach and General Manager for the upcoming 2023-2024 VIJHL season.
Brad brings a wealth of experience to the Bombers including time in the BCHL with the Victoria Grizzlies, the Nanaimo Buccaneers in the VIJHL and with BC Hockey Elite programming with the U18 North Island Silvertips.
Originally from Hamiota, Manitoba, Knight’s player career included 4 seasons in the BCHL, 3 of which with the Nanaimo Clippers.
“We’re thrilled to add a coach with the type of experience in the game Brad has” said Bombers President David Michaud. “We received a lot of interest in this position, but the conversations I had with Brad were so positive on a shared philosophy, and he has had a tremendous impact on so many young players in our region. I look forward to a new and exciting generation of Bombers Hockey under Brad’s leadership.”
For Brad Knight, the return to Junior hockey with an operation like the Bombers has him very excited for the up coming season. “I’m really looking forward to working in a program that has the opportunity to provide over 250 hours of ice to young hockey players looking to move forward in hockey. The Valley is fast becoming one of the finest communities providing valuable support to hockey players from all over North America.”
The Bulldogs are also excited to announce the return of Assistant Coach Mike Doucette to the Bombers for the upcoming season. Doucette has been with the Bombers since their inaugural season. “Mike is a valuable part of our organization, not just with the Bombers but on the whole. I’m excited to have him back and the chance for him to work with Brad. It’s great news for our program.” said Michaud.
The Bombers will announce the details shortly of an ID camp for players to show coach Knight if they have what it takes to come to Hockey Valley and become a Bomber.
