Bombers Rebound For Win Over Islanders

The Port Alberni Bombers, after suffering two consecutive losses, found their scoring touch and defeated Kerry Park Islanders 5-2 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play on Friday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Power play goals by Mahki Wandler and Kash Nicklin gave the Bombers a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes and after Mason Smith scored early in the second frame and Ethan Unger scored nearly eleven minutes later to make the score 4-0 it appeared the Bombers would have enough on this night.
The Islanders did come back somewhat, scoring a power play goal of their own, but Joel Dorn scored to restore the Bombers four goal lead as the teams went to the dressing rooms after two periods.
The Islanders would add one goal in the third period on a shot that went one way while everybody was going the other, but it would be too little, too late for the visitors with the Bombers picking up the win before 404 fans.
The Bombers outshot Kerry Park 55-34 on the evening, going 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Islanders were 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
Nicklin and Wandler both added two assist to go a long with their goals, while Malik Oliva added two helpers. McCall Nault, Simon Holubar, Kaydin Halladay and Troy Zajac added one assist each.
Xavier Hahn got the win in the Bomber goal, stopping 32 of 34 shots.
The next game for the locals is Sunday when they face Victoria Cougars in Esquimalt. Opening face-off is set for 3:30 pm at the Archie Browning Center. The Bombers return home for a Wednesday evening encounter with Campbell River Storm. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
