The Port Alberni Bombers lost their second game in a row on home ice, dropping a 3-2 decision to Saanich Predators on Wednesday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
The Bombers had a decided advantage in the first frame, but a goal by Mathieu Ouellette with two seconds remaining in the period gave the Predators a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
After falling behind 2-0 on a Isaiah Idisi goal, the Bombers finally got untracked when Jack Barrett scored on a Bomber power play, but Boston Cripps restored the lead for the visitors and they led 3-1 going into the final frame.
Zach Spafford scored late in the third period to get the Bombers close, and a late power play gave the locals a chance to tie the contest, but it wasn’t to be.
Damien Knackstedt, in his second Bomber start of the season, was awarded second star on the night, stopping 31 of 34 shots, many of the spectacular variety.
The Bombers will play two games on the weekend. The first, at home against Victoria Cougars in a 7:00 pm start at the Multiplex, followed by a Sunday tilt in Campbell River against the North Division-leading Storm. That contest starts at 4:00 pm.
