The Port Alberni Bombers lost their fourth consecutive Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League game on Saturday night, falling 4-2 to Oceanside Generals in Parksville.
McCall Nault scored his fourth goal of the season giving the Bombers an early lead at 12:57 of the first frame as the Bombers went to the first intermission ahead 1-0 in what proved to be a penalty-filled affair.
From there it was all Generals as they scored three times in the second frame and once more in the final period, taking a 4-1 lead into the waning moments of the contest. Seth Corlazzoli, Jacob Leamy with two goals, and Brayen Newans scored for the hosts, while newcomer Logan Meyer scored his first goal as a Bomber to get his team to within two goals late in the fray, but as has been the case in this recent slide, it was too little, too late.
Both teams were 1-for-5 on the power play, with the Bombers outshooting the Generals 31-26 on the evening. Penalties were a major issue on the night – the Bombers were assessed 61 minutes in total, while the Generals amassed 49 minutes.
The Bombers return home next weekend for a pair of games at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. First up will be the Kerry Park Islanders on Friday, followed by the Campbell River Storm on Saturday evening. Both games are scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
