Bombers Suffer First Loss

The Port Alberni Bombers suffered their first loss of the 2024-25 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season, dropping a 4-2 decision to a hard-working Victoria Cougars team. The loss was the first of the season after five straight victories to open the campaign.
Trailing 2-1 after two periods of play, the Bombers tied the contest when Sam Davidson scored at 4:27 of the third frame, but the Cougars responded with two goals in a little over two minutes, the first coming just 29 seconds after the Bombers’ tying goal.
Daniel Betcher was the other Bomber goal scorer, his first in the VIJHL, with Davidson assisting on the play. Jack Barrett and Solstice Tennant assisted on Davidson’s marker.
The Cougars outshot the Bombers 27-25 and won the special teams battle, scoring two goals on the power play, while the Bombers went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
The Bombers return to action on Wednesday night when they play host to the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
