Bombers Suffer Second Straight Overtime Loss

Playing their second straight game against a division leader, the Port Alberni Bombers suffered their second straight Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) overtime loss on Wednesday night, this time to Westshore Wolves by a 2-1 score.
Unlike Sunday’s loss to Campbell River Storm where the Bombers surrendered a two-goal lead, the Bombers had to come from behind to get to overtime on Wednesday at The Q Centre.
After the teams battled through 40 minutes of goalless hockey, Westshore took the lead when Wyatt Taron scored at 14:31 of the third period, before Sean Richards scored his tenth goal of the season for the Bombers just over two minutes later, sending the game beyond regulation time.
The extra period didn’t last long, as Adam Gilberg scored for the Wolves at 1:07, sending most of the crowd home happy.
Bombers’ net minder Tom Forrest was named the game’s third star for his efforts in stopping 30 of the 32 Westshore shots sent his way.
The Bombers return to VIJHL action on Saturday when they host Nanaimo Buccaneers in an afternoon encounter at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. The 2:00 pm start is part of Hockey Day in the Alberni Valley.
