Bombers visit Kraken tonight

It’s the final weekend of the pre-Christmas portion of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League schedule, as the Port Alberni Bombers (12-17-2-0, 5th North) travel down Island tonight to face the Kraken (14-17-1-1, 4th North) at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena tonight.

The Bombers last played Friday night in Saanich, where they halted a three game slide with a 5-4 win over the Predators. The Kraken were in Nanaimo last night, where they picked up a 4-3 win over the Buccaneers.

The Kraken won the first head-to-head meeting, 7-6 in overtime at the Bomber Base on October 16th, before the Bombers reponded with a 4-3 win four days later. The Bombers earned a 3-2 win on home ice on November 10th. The Kraken won the most recent meeting by a 4-2 score on November 26th in Lake Cowichan.

The teams enter play tonight separated by just four points in the standings, with the Bombers having two games in hand. The final four head-to-head meetings between the clubs could go a long way to deciding who’s on the outside of the Playoff picture at the end of February.

Puck drop is at 7:30 at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
