Bombers Win on Home Ice – First win of New Year

The Port Alberni Bombers spotted Saanich Predators a 1-0 first period lead, but rebounded with two goals in each of the second and third frames to defeat their guests 4-2 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play on Saturday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Sean Richards got things going for the Bombers, scoring on the power play to even the score at 1-1 and then Grayson Salmon scored with nine seconds remaining in the second period to give the Bombers the lead.
All of the scoring in the third frame came in the last minute of regulation time as the Bombers scored two empty net markers, the first by Owen Ditzel with 58 seconds remaining and the second by Nathan Hayes with nine seconds left on the clock. Sandwiched in between Von Parsons scored for the Predators with 15 seconds left.
Richards had an assist to go along with his goal while Leim Smith with two helpers and Luke Ridgway and Zak Green also added assists.
Evan Grant picked up the win in the Bombers net, stopping 19 of 21 shots sent his way.
The Bombers were 1-for-5 on the power play out-shooting the Predators 36-21 overall.
Port Alberni returns to the ice on Sunday afternoon when they meet Oceanside Generals in Parksville. Game time is 1:30 pm at Oceanside Place. They return to home ice on Saturday, January 25 when they face Peninsula Panthers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. Puck drop for that one is 7:00 pm.
