A concerted effort in the third period wasn’t enough as the Port Alberni Bombers dropped a 4-3 decision to Oceanside Generals in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play on Saturday night in Parksville.
The loss was the Bombers fourth in a row and fifth defeat in their last six games.
The Bombers trailed throughout the contest. Trailing 3-0 in the second frame, Malik Oliva scored his twelfth goal of the season to cut the Generals lead to two goals after forty minutes, but an early third period marker by the Generals Ryder Bradford, (his second of the contest) restored their three goal margin. From there, Port Alberni were the better team, getting goals from Logan Meyer and Joel Dorn, but in the end it wasn’t enough. The Bomber loss, coupled with Campbell River’s 6-4 win over Kerry Park Islanders, means the Bombers now sit in fifth place in the VIJHL’s North Division, two points behind the Storm, but with one game in hand.
Quinn Bouchard had two assists on the night, while Oliva added a helper to go along with his goal. Xavier Hahn had a solid game between the pipes for the Bombers, stopping 38 of 42 shots, many of the saves of the spectacular variety.
The Bombers have two games on the road this week, travelling to Nanaimo and a date with the Buccaneers on Thursday night, before jumping on the bus for a Friday night encounter with the Storm in Campbell River. They return home on Sunday, December 14 for a 6:00 pm game with the Buccaneers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
