The Port Alberni Bombers saw their Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) record dip below the .500 mark on Friday night after a 4-1 loss to the Kraken in Lake Cowichan.
The Kraken were full value for the win, scoring once in the first period and three more times in the second frame in skating to the comprehensive win.
The second period was the key for the Kraken who got a shorthanded goal from Toby Johnson to extend their lead to 2-0, and then two even-strength goals twenty-six seconds apart by Diezel Wyton and Addison Bradley gave Lake Cowichan the cushion they needed for the win.
Cole Campbell scored the lone Bomber goal, his first of the season, early in the third period, but it wasn’t enough. John Shields and McCall Nault drew assists.
The Bombers now prepare for a matchup with Oceanside Generals on Sunday evening at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. Opening face-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
