Bombers drop season opener to Storm 6-1 in Campbell River

The Port Alberni Bombers began their inaugural season Friday night in Campbell River, where the Storm scored five third period goals to pick up a 6-1 win.

Blake Power gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead in the first as he scored the historic first goal in franchise history 7:46 into the opening period. It was one to remember, as Justin Osborne made a diving play to chop the puck back to the point for Evan Vasarhely, who wristed at the net where Blake Power deflected it past Carlos Siso from the slot. The Storm would reply to tie it at 1-1 four minutes later, with James Quaife scoring on the power play as the game headed to the second deadlocked at 1-1. Shots were 13-4 Storm.

The second period was scoreless, with both goalies coming up huge to preserve the tie. Shots were 14-10 Storm, for a two-period total in their favour of 27-14.

The Storm blew the game open in the third, with four goals in the first ten minutes of the period to lead 5-1, with Wyatt Dumont, Angus Allchin, Carter De Boer and Mitchell Finner finding the net. Justin Gyori would complete the scoring on the power play with just over four minutes to play to make it a 6-1 final.

Shots in the third were 18-8 Storm, for a game total of 45-22 with Keelan Hondro and Carlos Siso being the goalies of record.

The Bombers went 0 for 4 on the power play while the Storm went 2 for 3.

The Bombers next see action on Wednesday, September 15th when they host the Kerry Park Islanders for their Home Opener. Game time is 7:00pm.
