Bombers Comeback Falls Short

The Port Alberni Bombers dropped a 6-4 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League decision to Campbell River Storm on Saturday night but not before a concerted effort over the last 30 minutes had the league leading-Storm reeling.
Trailing 5-0 early in the second period, the Bombers mounted a comeback by scoring four straight goals, two in the second frame and two more in the third, to get within one goal of the Storm, only to see the visitors score a late goal against the run of play and leave the Alberni Valley Multiplex with the win.
Jonny Timmons, Zachary Ellis-Winters, Kash Nicklin and Kai Verbrugge scored for the Bombers. Verbrugge also added two assists, as did Anthony Duhamel.
Verbrugge was named player of the game for the Bombers, while Carter De Boer was accorded the same for the Storm. DeBoer had a goal and three assists, all in the first period.
The Bombers next game is Wednesday when they welcome the Comox Valley Glacier Kings to the Multiplex. Puck drop is 7:00 pm.
