Bombers Hold Back Panthers To Secure Win

The Port Alberni Bombers came away with a “We’ll take it!” victory over the Peninsula Panthers on Friday night by a score of 5-4.

The reason being is because the Bombers players better have given all of the love in the world to their incredible goalie Callum Tung after the performance he had.

In the opening frame, the Bombers would be the only team to be on the board. Sam Davidson would register the first two goals of the game to give the Bombers a 2-0 lead heading into intermission.

The shots though were 18-9 in favour of the Panthers. This was a common theme throughout the game.

In the second period, the Bombers would add two more goals, this time both goals came off the stick of Brady McIsaac. One of which was shorthanded. Which would see the Bombers take a 4-0 lead, but the Panthers would get on the board on the powerplay to make it a 4-1 game going into the third period.

The Panthers would continue to outshoot the Bombers, this time 17-7 in the second period. Making the shot totals 35-16 up to this point.

The third period is when things got very tense.

Blake Power would score another shorthanded goal for the Bombers to make it a 5-1 game. Which, would stand as the game-winner.

Just 13 seconds later, the Panther would score on the powerplay again to make it a 5-2 game.

A little over ten minutes later, the Panthers would make it a 5-3 game with just under seven minutes left to play.

And in the final four minutes of the game, the Panthers would score their third straight goal to make it a 5-4 contest.

However, the Panthers would not get another one past Tung, as the Bombers would hang on to grab two more points for the season.

The shots at the end of the third period were 20-5 for the Panthers. Which would end up being a 55-21 difference at the end of the game.

Tung was without a doubt the MVP for the Bombers this game after making 51 saves against one of the most explosive teams in the VIJHL.

And the Bombers are not done this week, they have another game on Saturday, October 30th against the Oceanside Generals at Oceanside Place.

This will be one you won’t want to miss after what happened earlier in the week between these two teams.
