The Port Alberni Bombers were defeated 3-0 by Saanich Predators in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play on Friday night in Victoria.
The teams played scoreless hockey for the first half of the game, but a power play goal by the Predators finally opened the scoring with just over six minutes left in the second period.
Two third-period goals, after a delay of nearly 30 minutes to clean up a broken piece of rink-board glass, put the game out of reach and the hosts won going away.
The goaltenders were the stars of the encounter, Keiran Caughran recording the shutout for the Predators, while Bomber net minder Matthew Kuhnlein was spectacular in stopping 49 of 52 shots sent his way.
The Bombers next game is scheduled for next Friday, December 1 when they meet Peninsula Panthers at the Panorama Recreation Centre in what will be the second of four games on the road. The locals return home Friday, December 15 when they meet Nanaimo Buccaneers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
