Port Alberni Bombers dropped a 5-3 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League decision to the previously winless Nanaimo Buccaneers on Friday night in Port Alberni.
Leading 1-0 after one period, the Bombers surrendered five straight second period goals to find themselves down 5-2 after two frames.
The Bombers regrouped in the third period, firing 23 shots at the Buccaneers net, but could only score one goal, as Nanaimo goaltender Darian Feser proved nearly unbeatable in backstopping his team to victory.
Anthony Duhamel, Jett Ronning and Kai Verbrugge tallied for Port Alberni, who outshot Nanaimo 53-29.
The Bombers now travel to Lake Cowichan next Friday before returning home to face the Campbell River Storm at the Alberni Valley Multiplex on Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
