The Port Alberni Bombers came into Saturday nights contest looking to extend their home win streak to 4 games.
The first period was tight the whole way with both teams getting a pair of man advantage chances but the penalty killers came up big. There was no scoring in the opening frame and the teams were deadlocked at 0 after the first 20 minutes.
In the second period things started to open up as both teams had solid scoring chances it took until 18:22 of period 2 for Blake Power to get a weird one to sneak past Saanich goaltender Tanner Johnson and that would make it 1-0 Bombers after 40 minutes.
The Bombers would open it up a little more in period 3 as just under 6 minutes into the frame Blake Power score his second of the game and 3rd of the year to make it 2-0 Bomb Squad. Then at 14:39 Chase Pacheco would score his team leading 5th goal of the season to add some insurance and that’s where we would finish. 3-0 the final as the Bombers win their 4th in a row at home and improve to 4-3 on the season.
With the loss Saanich falls to 3-2-1 on the season. Felix Plendl made 39 saves for his first VIJHL shutout.
The Bombers are next in action on Wednesday when they host the undefeated Comox Valley Glaicer Kings that will wrap up this 5 game home stand. Puck drop for that game is 7pm at the Multiplex.
