Bombers Find Offence in Win Over Buccaneers

The Port Alberni Bombers recorded their highest offensive output of the season to defeat Nanaimo Buccaneers 8-4 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play Sunday night at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
In a contest that had its ebbs and flows, the Bombers led 5-4 after the Buccaneers scored two third-period markers to make things interesting. But they regrouped and scored three goals in the last three and a half minutes to win going away.
Kai Verbrugge and Zach Spafford led the Bombers offence with two goals and two assists each, while Owen Robertson, Jonny Timmons, Owen Ditzel and Jakob Churchill added one goal each.
Robertson’s goal was his first in the VIJHL
Damien Knackstedt was solid in the Bombers net, making a number of key saves, especially early on, when the game was in doubt.
The Bombers next game is Friday night when they host those same Nanaimo Buccaneers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex and follow that up with a Saturday night tilt at the Multiplex against the Lake Cowichan Kraken. Both games are 7:00 pm starts.
