The Bombers snapped their eight-game Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League losing streak with a comprehensive 6-3 win over the Lake Cowichan Kraken on Wednesday evening at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Getting an outstanding effort from newly-acquired goaltender Matthew Kuhnlein, the Bombers parlayed solid defensive play in all three zones of the ice to wear down the Kraken and come away with the victory.
The Bombers were lead by a line consisting of Zach Spafford, Kai Verbrugge and Owen Ditzel. Spafford had two goals and an assist, while Verbrugge added a goal and two assists and Ditzel had three helpers.
Solstice Tennant, Jonny Timmons and John Shields also scored for the Bombers. Anthony Duhamel was credited with two assists, while Timmons, Zachary Ellis-Winters and Casey Rutland added one assist each.
The Bombers now travel to Campbell River for a meeting with the Storm on Friday night at 7:30 pm at the Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
