Bombers Head East to Face the Generals

It’s Saturday night hockey for the Port Alberni Bombers (0-3-0), as they head down the road and pay a visit to the Oceanside Generals (3-2-0).

The last time these two teams met, it was a rather lopsided affair, as the Bombers lost to the Generals 8-2 in an exhibition match. Since then, neither team has had a terrific start to the season.

The Bombers have had a slow start, largely because it’s their inaugural season and have played the best team in the VIJHL, the Campbell River Storm, twice out of their three games.

As for the Generals, they sit 2nd in the North Division, but their record is 3-2-0 so it’s not a separation at the moment. The Generals also have the third-highest penalty minutes so far in the 2021-22 season, recording 112 PIM in their first 5 games. Only behind the Kerry Park Islanders (166) and the Saanich Panthers (178). So staying disciplined has been an issue so far for the Generals.

However, the Generals have two players in the top five for scoring so far this season. It’s the dynamic duo of Greyson Weme (9-4-13) and Carter Johnson (4-9-13). It will certainly be a tough task for the Bombers to keep those two in check and not let them have too much space on the ice.

One thing though the Bombers should try to do is exploit their discipline issues and try to gain some momentum on the powerplay. No better way to get on the board in hockey than to have plenty of opportunities with the man advantage.

Tonight’s match will begin at 7:00 PM and is taking place at Oceanside Place. And for those who aren’t able to make it to the game, you can watch the game live on HockeyTV, a link for that will be down below.
