Bombers Come From Behind for Shootout Win

In a game of ebbs and flows the Port Alberni Bombers overcame a two-goal third-period deficit to record a 6-5 shootout victory over Lake Cowichan Kraken on Saturday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
The Bombers held one-goal leads on three separate occasions, only to see the Kraken come back and tie the game each time. From 3-3 the visitors tallied twice and took a 5-3 lead into the second intermission.
To their credit, the Bombers rebounded in the third stanza as Owen Ditzel scored his third goal of the contest to draw to within one, and then Zach Spafford scored with less than two minutes remaining to send the game to overtime.
Overtime settled nothing, although both teams provided fans with perhaps the most exciting five minutes of play this season at the Multiplex.
In the shootout the Bombers scored twice, Ditzel and Jonny Timmons finding the net, while Bombers net minder Damien Knackstedt stopped three of four shots for the victory.
Kai Verbrugge scored the other regulation time goal for the Bombers.
The Bombers next game is Wednesday night when they host Kerry Park Islanders at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
