The Port Alberni Bombers are hoping to build on an exciting come-from-behind shootout victory when they host Kerry Park Islanders in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play on Wednesday evening at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Trailing by two goals to Lake Cowichan Kraken on Saturday night at the Multiplex, the Bombers scored two third-period markers, including the tying goal with under two minutes remaining to force overtime and ultimately the shootout victory.
The Islanders suffered a 4-3 loss to Victoria Cougars in their last start.
Kerry Park leads the season series between the two teams 2-0, having won both contests handily – 6-2 in Port Alberni and 5-0 at Fuller Lake. Those games were played in October.
The Islanders are led offensively by Finlay Klippenstein with 45 points. Following him is Kenny Boychuk, who was added to the team through a recent trade with Nanaimo Clippers. Boychuk has 35 points on the season, including a goal and three assists in four games with the Islanders.
Owen Ditzel and Kai Verbrugge lead the Bombers, with 32 points. Both were instrumental in Saturday’s win – Ditzel scoring three goals, while Verbrugge had a goal and an assist.
Opening face-off is set for 7:00 pm.
