The Port Alberni Bombers suffered their second Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League loss in as many games to Campbell River Storm on Sunday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. After suffering a humiliating 11-3 loss to the Storm on Friday in Campbell River, the Bombers responded with a more concerted effort on Sunday, but still fell, this time 3-2 to the powerful Storm.
Bombers net-minder Dylan Dykstra was the best player on the ice for either team, making a number of sensational saves to keep his team close. In the end, the newly-acquired Dykstra stopped 50 of 53 shots sent his way.
Zachary Ellis-Winters and Owen Ditzel scored for the Bombers. Ellis-Winters picked up his third marker of the campaign while Ditzel picked up his 13th tally, both goals coming on the power play. Anthony Duhamel assisted on both goals while Jonny Timmons also recored a helper.
Sunday’s contest was the first of four in a row on home ice for the locals. Next up will be Comox Valley Glacier Kings on Friday night followed by a Saturday evening tilt with Lake Cowichan Kraken. The Bombers end the home stand when they meet Kerry Park Islanders on Wednesday, January 24. All games are scheduled for a 7:00 pm start time at the Multiplex.
