After taking a 4-2 third-period lead Port Alberni Bombers surrendered two late markers before losing 5-4 in overtime to Nanaimo Buccaneers in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play Friday night in Nanaimo.
The Bombers held period advantages of 2-1 and 3-2 and led the contest for most of regulation time, but the Buccaneers saved their best for the last ten minutes of the third period.
Kolten Brown, Troy Zajac, Domenico Tremblay and Cole Campbell scored for the Bombers, while Owen Hyde, Kody Pham with two, Bostyn MacDonald, and Dylan Lazaroff, with the overtime game-winner, scored for Nanaimo. Kilian Alves Pereira had two assists for the Bombers, with Pham picking up two assists to go along with his two goals and Rhys Wilcox adding three assists for the Buccaneers.
The Bombers out shot the Buccaneers 47-44, while going 1-for-3 on the power play. The Buccaneers were 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
The Bombers are back on the ice on Saturday night as they host Saanich Predators at the Alberni Valley Multiplex. Opening face off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
