Bombers Face Panthers on Road

The Port Alberni Bombers begin a two game weekend set with a Friday night Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League contest against Peninsula Panthers at the Panorama Rec Centre.
Both teams are struggling as they prepare for Friday’s game. The Bombers lost on Wednesday to Kerry Park and come into the contest having won three of their last ten games. The Panthers dropped a 4-2 decision to Victoria Cougars one week ago today, and have only one win, plus an overtime and shootout loss in their last ten games.
As the season nears its conclusion, the Panthers currently sit in fifth place in the VIJHL’s South Division, while the Bombers are in fifth place in the North. The Panthers currently hold the VIJHL’s last playoff spot with the Bombers 20 points in arrears with 11 games remaining in their season. Although a playoff spot would take a miracle run by the Bombers, it must begin tonight. A Panther win would mathematically eliminate any Bomber hopes.
Ryan Grambart leads the Panthers in scoring with 36 points, while Owen Ditzel and Kai Verbrugge lead the Bombers with 32 points.
Tonight’s opening face-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
