Bombers Lose Barn-Burner to High-Flying Cougars

The Port Alberni Bombers and Victoria Cougars put on a goal-scoring clinic Thursday evening at the Archie Browning Arena as the Cougars came away with a 9-7 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) win.
The star of the evening was the Bombers Eduard Mishikov who scored four goals in a losing cause, all of them highlight reel worthy.
But the Cougars were not to be denied, scoring three times in each period to continue their winning skein that has now reached thirteen games, all coming since the turn of the New Year.
Simon Semancik and Luke Reinhart score twice for the hosts, with Ethan Davey, league scoring leader Joseph Melichar, Aden Glenn, Jordan Ramsay and Carter Zeeben with the winning tally, all scoring single markers.
For the Bombers, McCall Nault, Quinn Bouchard and Jeremy Gould added singletons, while Kash Nicklin and Simon Holubar added two assists each.
The Cougars outshot the Bombers 52-22 on the night, picking up two power play goals in four opportunities, while the Bombers were 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
The Bombers return to action on Saturday night when they host Peninsula Panthers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex in what will be their final home game of the 2025-26 VIJHL season. Opening face-off is set for 7:00 pm. The locals then travel to Nanaimo for their final regular season game where they face the Buccaneers at the Nanaimo Ice Centre next Thursday.
