Bombers Win First Game in Franchise History

September 29th, 2021 will be a memorable date for the Port Alberni Bombers. As the Bombers won their first-ever game in franchise history against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings by a final score of 3-2.

The Bombers were coming off a crushing loss to the Victoria Cougars the night before after leading it 3-1 and ultimately fell 4-3. Bombers goalie Keelan Hondro played incredible that game too stopping 47 of the 51 shots he faced. So the Bombers had to tighten things up in their defensive end.

However, in the first period, it wasn’t pretty as the Glacier Kings outshot the Bombers 12-1 and having a 1-0 lead going into the intermission.

But in the second period, the Bombers would eventually get into the game, but it wouldn’t be until near the end of the period as Nathan MacDonald would be the lone goal scorer as the period would end 2-1 for the Glacier Kings.

By the end of the second period, the shots were 31-12 in favour of the Glacier Kings.

In the third, the Bombers would take over. As Robbie Steel would tie the game just under six minutes into the period to make it 2-2. And Nathan MacDonald scored his second goal of the game. Which would be the eventual game-winner with just under eight minutes to go.

And with Ashton Lukan standing on his head for the Bombers, it would remain that way until the final buzzer and the Bombers would secure their first win in franchise history.

The final shot totals were 41-22 for the Glacier Kings.

The next Bombers game will be on Saturday, October 2nd at 7:30 PM as they will play the same Glacier Kings.
